Corporate Social Responsibility Policy (CSR)

Updated February 2023

Introduction

This Policy is the framework for Ordit to regulate ourselves in order to ensure that all of our activities positively affect society as a whole. Our CSR overall aim is to guarantee that we work ethically, considering human rights as well as the social, economic and environmental impacts of what we do as a business. We should meet, and aim to exceed, any relevant legislation, and if legislation does not exist in a particular area, we should ensure that we carry out best practices anyway. Ordit are fully committed to ensuring that any business undertakings are conducted as ethically as possible by following the below policy.

Our Values

We dont believe in fluffy aspirational statements you often see about how companies know sustainability and caring for the planet and community and its importance. We think it’s more about demonstrating what we have done so far to show you that we really do think about this in all we do. For too long, our focus has been on consumption and convenience. As we look to the new decade, we’re encouraged by the growing emphasis on sustainability in everything we do – from our homes and food to fashion and beauty. There’s a desire to take better care of not only ourselves but our planet, too. This year our sector needs to be smarter. We need to move beyond just bashing plastics and see past brands jumping on the environmental bandwagon to gain media coverage. The “Greta effect” will help to make 2023 the year consumers act with their feet and wallets and aim to make a real difference. Above all we care about the world we live in. We think it’s a beautiful place and we’ll do our best to keep it that way.

Our CSR in Action

What have we done so far?

Our Clients and Food Partners

  • Our Food Partners – We’ve spent a long time finding the right UK-based suppliers to work with us so you can rest assured that everything you’re getting at Ordit comes from a good place. We conduct significant due diligence on new and existing food partners in aspects such as sustainability, food standards and hygiene and alignment to our core brand values. We want our Clients to enjoy our products knowing they’ve been sustainably produced and responsibly transported.
  • In 2020 we have implemented new highest standards for Covid19 Health and Safety in all aspects of our business with our Clients, food partners, delivery partners, suppliers and team and have regular checks in place to ensure that we maintain and adhere to these best practices
  • Packaging – where possible we now ONLY work with food partners to ensure that our packaging is recyclable or compostable.
  • We have continued to develop our exclusive partnerships with the leading London Food Waste and Charity partners including: ○ Karma ( https://karma.lif e ) and Too Good To Go ( https://toogoodtogo.co.uk ). The apps reduces food waste by allowing restaurants, cafes and grocery stores to sell surplus food to consumers at a lower price. We are promoting Karma and Too Good to Go to all of our 300+ food partners. ○ Percent ( https://www.wearepercent.com ). We are promoting this app to our food partners. Every time a Percent user spends on their app with one of our food partners, we donate a percent of what the user spends to the charity of the user’s choice. Percent are aimed at getting more customer footfall in local places – whilst allowing customers to raise for causes they care about, such as homelessness, heart disease and increasing diversity.
  • We do a lot of things without commercial benefit to help people learn about how they can learn, eat and cook healthy food through Ordits partnership with Sano, a leading wellness and nutrition business in the UK and London. For example helping companies by sharing advice for their employees, doing events including at schools, universities, medics which are involved in giving healthy food at no charge, helping share our knowledge and advice in giving healthy food experiences often at no charge.
  • In Ordit Europe we are an official partner of Unicef and we give customers of our food ordering and delivery the ability to donate to Unicef on their checkout payment.
  • We work with charities to give free food or education support and raise money – examples include Human Rights Watch and Medicin Sans Frontiers. In 2020 we have raised funds for Mind, the mental health charity through our corporate and food partnerships and running the Vitality 10k when it gets rescheduled as it was postponed in May.
  • We are jointly hosting a community event in December 2020 (assuming it goes ahead post COVID19) in Paternoster Square for local businesses and residents to bring people together and enjoy the food. The event is hosted by LGT Vestra and includes a pop-up Soup Market. Last year LGT managed to raise £10,252 for Streets of London with all proceeds going to Centrepoint, who estimate that over 22,000 young people will be at risk of homelessness this Christmas.
  • We are planning a future partnership in 2021 with Brigade and Beyond Food Foundation to provide career paths into our food partners – they have trained hundreds of apprentices as chefs into jobs and given thousands of homeless people new skills in the last 6 years. With rough sleeping in London having more than doubled in the last six years, it’s an issue of critical importance.
  • We refer our food partners to become members of the Sustainable Restaurants Association (SRA) which is a not-for-profit organisation which helps restaurants become more sustainable in the way they source their ingredients, engage with the local community and manage their impact on the environment Our Team and Suppliers
  • Our Vision is to put equality, diversity and inclusion is at the heart of everything we do and we are committed to inclusivity across all areas of employment and business, in the provision of services and in all of our processes and procedures.
  • Our employees are encouraged to reach their full potential and we recognise the protected characteristics and nine strands of equality: race, gender, gender reassignment, disability, sexual orientation, sex, religion or belief, marriage and civil partnerships, and age. We seek to reflect the community we serve and fulfil our legal and regulatory obligations.
  • This commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion applies to all our services, whether we provide those services directly or procure them from elsewhere. We expect high standards from suppliers who provide goods, services and works to Ordit.
  • We welcome and support the Equality Act 2010 and the requirements stipulated within the Modern Slavery Act 2015, ensuring that we meet our obligations under these acts as an employer, service provider and as a purchaser of goods and services, embedding these obligations in all our hiring, recruitment and supplier opportunities so external partners understand.
  • We aim at all times to adopt procurement processes that demonstrate our commitment to equality and the avoidance of exploitation and slavery in the supply chain with all our suppliers and contractors. This will require us to demonstrate compliance by the questions we ask, in the advice we provide and by making sure that contractual arrangements we agree actively promote equality and seek to reduce the incidence of exploitation
  • We put everything into giving our team extensive training, development and ongoing career support. We also encourage them to develop wider life skills as well as training in nutrition and new skills as they are our brand.
  • We believe in diversity, accountability and equal pay for equal work.
  • 75% of our team are women and our team of 11 come from 8 different countries around the world.
  • The highest paid person is only paid 1.5x the lowest paid person and our Founders have never received any significant pay or benefits and don’t plan to do so in 2023

We know it’s just a small start and there is a lot more we can do in the future. We really will keep thinking about this in all we do.
